Happy 2024, everyone! I love the start of a new year—full of possibilities, new goals, and the perfect time for a fresh start. I’ve spent the last few weeks setting up my goals for 2024, and one of my favorite parts of preparing for the new year is choosing my word (or for this year, words) of the year.
Today, I’m going to share my 2024 business words, share more about why having a word of the year is a great business practice, and teach you how to choose yours. Let’s dive in!
I think that choosing a word of the year is a trend that’s gained popularity recently, and for good reason! It is a powerful tool in finding focus in either your personal or professional life. But what do I mean by “word of the year?” Basically, it’s a word that defines or relates to how you want to conduct yourself in the upcoming year. Your word can guide how you think about your business, guide your actions so you get closer to achieving your goals, and even change how you show up in your daily life. For example, if you choose the world “connect,” you might make more time throughout your day to engage with otheir business owners or ideal clients on social media, reach out to past clients to check in, or work to improve little surprises for your clients throughout their time working with you.
The first step in choosing your word is to really consider what you’d like to achieve this year. Create your goals first, and then your words will follow. Each word you choose should align with the vision you have for your business moving forward so they blend seamlessly with the actions you’ll need to take.
When you think about what you’d like to work on or improve in your business this year, think about your business as a whole and break it down into categories. This can help you think about goals that can either work on the big picture, or smaller goals that will address certain areas of your business.
Here are some ideas to help you get started:
By carefully considering these questions, you can get into the nitty gritty of what you love about your business and what you’d still like to improve, and go from there.
Choosing a word gives you something to focus on throughout the year. When you find yourself getting off track or losing sight of your goals, you can come back to your word and realign your actions with your vision. Constantly reminding yourself of your word also has a way of helping you stay motivated, because as we all know, motivation ebbs and flows.
Some ideas to keep your word top of mind:
When I sat down and considered where I want my business to be at the end of 2024, choosing my words for the year felt easy. I want my business to be a place of joy, successful in serving clients I love to work with, and in a positive headspace.
To meet all of those expectations, I chose the words Manifest, Create, and Rest. I want to use the Law of Attraction to bring my goals to fruition and always keep a positive mindset about the future. Manifestation is so powerful, and I plan to put all of my energy into setting myself up for success. I want to create even better systems for both my clients and myself, and to create new resources and tools to share with my audience. I also think that prioritizing rest is extremely important. As a business owner, it’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget that you need down time too. I have a hard time taking a break, and so I plan to work on doing just that this year.
To sum up everything we’ve talked about, I hope that you’re feeling excited and ready to take on 2024. A new year can bring so many feelings to the surface, but through goal setting and a positive mindset, we can work towards having a great year. So here’s your homework: take an hour this week to consider your goals and where you currently are in business, and come up with at least 1 word to focus on for the year.
And if you’d like to share, leave me your word in the comments and WHY you chose that word!
