The number one question I get asked when I tell someone about my business is, “What do you do?” They’re not sure what an online business manager does or how I can help business owners continue to grow. But let me tell you – OBMs can be vital to helping entrepreneurs flourish.
Here’s the tea:
An OBM is someone who virtually manages the daily operations of your business. They’re one part support person, one part coach, one part cheerleader, but mostly someone who can objectively look at your business and see both your vision and has the focus to manage all of the daily operations to keep things running smoothly.
As entrepreneurs, we are constantly overwhelmed with an endless list to to-do’s and it can be A LOT. No one has the capacity to be “on” 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And if you are, you’re headed straight for burnout because it’s not sustainable. And I get it – we feel like if we don’t keep all of those balls in the air our business will fail. But that’s simply not true. It’s okay to delegate. It’s okay to hire people you trust to work with you in growing your business.
We live in a culture that glamorizes the hustle, but I just don’t see life that way. Business does not need to be overly complicated. You can find ways to streamline things, learn to do things differently, or choose to opt out of something even though it seems like everyone else is all over it (looking at you, Tik Tok).
You only have to keep a few simple things in mind and you’re onto something good:
See? Not too bad. And the most important ingredient to scaling a successful business is to have a vision. No vision = no growth.
This is where having an OBM is a game changer. You have the visions and values for your business, but they can get lost in the daily grind. It is the OBM’s job to come in, help you get grounded and clear on your path moving forward, and then put the work in where it counts. Now, keep in mind, you’ll still have to put in some work. BUT here’s the important part – you’ll be able to spend time working on the big stuff. Focus on the vision and overall goals you have for your business (and how to get there!), not the daily to-do’s to keep the wheels turning.
Let’s recap – an OBM:
If you’re feeling stuck or burnt out, it’s because you’re dealing with too much of the daily ins and outs of your business and need some to take a li’l bit off your plate. You’re the visionary, after all. Delegate, delegate, delegate. Once you take the plunge and get an OBM on your team, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. Promise!
